Frequently Asked Questions

How did you come up with this idea?
Easy really – We are all extremists and attracted to this sort of thing, and we also love the idea of promoting a cause greater than ourselves. However, what really initiated it was that our team founder was touched by cancer again, and we all rallied around her idea for a way to fight back.

What Route is Team Believe following and why?
Team Believe will be following the TransAmerica Trail, a 4,247.5 mile route from Astoria, OR to Yorktown, VA. It was created in 1976 by Adventure Cycling Association to commemorate the Nation’s bicentennial. For more information on this particular route, check out our Route Page! We chose this route for two reasons: 1. we desired to cross the country, from one end to the other, in a symbolic gesture to the journey against cancer. We will come to and cross some of the most difficult terrain and obstacles, but we will always move forward and eventually achieve our goal, the elimination of cancer.

What type of gear are you taking along?
Will you have a car to follow you? No, this will be a completely self-supported trip. What we need we will carry with us on our bikes for the entire journey. Albeit, we will be utilizing the post office fairly frequently to pick up shipments of food and supplies from back home, and to ship home anything we come to find cumbersome and not absolutely necessary. Our bikes are typical road bikes which have been outfitted with tires more conducive for long distance riding and with panniers to contain our gear. We will be traveling with tents, sleeping bags, food (mostly noodles, rice and beans!), water, bike tools, spare tires, pumps, cooking pots, a few changes of clothes, a few books (for our down time..), and hopefully not much more!

Where will you sleep?
It will vary. Some nights we will pitch our tents alongside the road. Other nights we will stay in campsites, or with people along the route who are kind enough to host our team. Some nights we will sleep in churches or motels. After a full day of riding, we’ll be able to fall asleep just about anywhere!

What makes you sure you can accomplish this?
Good question, and we’ve been asked this numerous times by our friends and family who are awestruck by the magnitude of our endeavor. We know we can accomplish this because, like the catch line of our mission: we believe in ourselves, we believe in the cause, and we believe in the cure. When you believe in something so strongly, anything is possible.

How can I join the cause?
The easiest way to help is to donate! It is as simple as clicking on the donate here link to donate directly to American Cancer Society. By giving to the American Cancer Society you are taking an active role in increasing the number of lives saved from cancer and the number of people who remain cancer free from life. Your contribution will help fund programs of research and education. Help us to spread the word about our team and our cause by directing everyone you know to our website!
